HOW TO REACH PERUGIA

BY AIR

To reach Perugia by air, you can fly into San Francesco d’Assisi Airport (Perugia International Airport), which is the closest airport to the city. The airport offers several domestic and international flights.
From the airport, you can reach the city center by:

Taxi: Taxis are available outside the terminal and can take you directly to your destination in Perugia.

Bus: There is a shuttle bus service that connects the airport to Perugia’s main bus terminal and city center.

Car rental: Several car rental agencies operate at the airport if you prefer to drive.

In addition, you can also fly into Rome’s Fiumicino or Ciampino Airport or Florence’s Peretola Airport and then travel to Perugia by train or car.

BY TRAIN

To reach Perugia by train, you can travel to Perugia’s main railway station, Perugia Centrale (also known as Perugia Fontivegge). Here’s how you can get there:

From Rome:

Take a train from Roma Termini station. Direct trains to Perugia typically take around 2-2.5 hours. There are both regional and high-speed train options available.

From Florence:

Trains from Firenze Santa Maria Novella station to Perugia take around 2-2.5 hours. Some routes may require a transfer at Terontola-Cortona or another nearby station.

From Milan:

You can take a high-speed train from Milano Centrale to Florence or Arezzo, then transfer to a regional train to Perugia. The travel time is approximately 4-5 hours.

From Bologna:

Take a train from Bologna Centrale to Florence and then transfer to a train heading to Perugia. The journey usually takes around 3-4 hours.

BY CAR

From the North (Milan, Florence), the best exit for Perugia on the A1 motorway is at Valdichiana, where the superstrada SS75bis branches into Umbria at Trasimeno Lake and continues towards Perugia.
From Rome travelling northwards along the A1 motorway the best exit for reaching Perugia is at Orte, which is connected to the regional capital at first by the SS204 to Terni and then by the E45 (or SS3bis) from Terni to Perugia.

The SS75bis has five exits for Perugia (from North): Perugia-Ferro di Cavallo, Perugia-Madonna Alta, Perugia-San Faustino (best to reach the main railway FS station, also good for the old town center), Perugia-Prepo (best to reach the old town center) and Perugia-Piscille (good to reach the old town center), Perugia-Ponte San Giovanni.
